Every generation of Christians has had to reckon with the communication tools of their day and decide whether to use them for the Kingdom. Gutenberg’s press. The radio. The television. Social media. Artificial intelligence.
Each time, the question is the same: will the Church engage with this or leave it to others? And each time, the Christians who engage faithfully, creatively, and with genuine love for the people they are trying to reach have changed the world.
The Content Evangelist is the person God has placed in your generation to engage with the most powerful communication tools in human history. And those tools have never been more accessible, more affordable, or more far-reaching than they are right now.
What Content Evangelism Actually Is
Content Evangelism is the practice of sharing your God experiences and what is happening in your church/ministry/Christian community to the masses and the millions through online platforms and digital media. It is not about becoming a celebrity influencer or building a personal brand. It is about recognising that God partners with everyday people like you and I to bring glory to His name through your story, your experience and your encounter with the living God, which has the potential to reach people you will never meet in places you will never physically go.
The Content Evangelist creates reflective content: videos, blogs, podcasts, direct messages, social media posts, email newsletters. Content that tells your story honestly. Content that answers the questions people are actually asking online. Content that invites dialogue rather than demanding decisions. Content that plants seeds in soil they will never see, told through a story they can relate to.
This is digital evangelism at its purest: the gospel going further than any single person could carry it, amplified by the tools of the age.
The Biblical Foundation
Paul used the Roman road network to take the gospel further and faster than any previous missionary. He wrote letters that were copied and circulated across the known world. He used every communication tool available to him in his generation to carry the gospel as far as it could go.
The Content Evangelist is Paul with a smartphone. The principle is identical. Romans 10:18 quotes Psalm 19: ‘Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world’. The psalmist was describing the heavens declaring God’s glory. Paul applied it to the spread of the gospel. The Content Evangelist applies it to a world where a single video can reach an entire community of people in less than 48 hours.
You Are a Digital Missionary!
As a Content Evangelist, you need to understand something fundamental about the digital space: it is not a marketing channel. It is a mission field. The billions of people who are online right now, searching for meaning, hope, answers, community, and purpose, are not consumers. They are everyday people, like you and I, made in the image of God who are looking for something that only the gospel can fully provide.
When you create content that is honest about your faith, practical about your life, and genuine in its invitation to go further, you are not doing marketing. You are doing mission. Every piece of content you put into the world is a seed. You do not control where it lands. You do not always know what it produces. But God does.
Practical Ideas and Activities for Content Evangelists…
1. The Mission-Themed Content Series
Commit to releasing one new piece of content per week for a season, built around a consistent theme: your God story told in chapters, answers to questions people commonly ask about faith, reflections on how your faith shapes the way you live and work. Each piece stands alone but is part of a larger story. Over time, this builds a library of content that keeps working long after you created it, finding people who are searching for exactly what it offers.
2. The Testimony Video
Record a simple, unscripted video sharing your God story. Not a production. Not a presentation with the perfect background. Just you, honest and direct, telling the story of what happened when you encountered Jesus. Three to five minutes. Post it on YouTube, Facebook, and/or Instagram. Share it in every relevant community you are part of. Then let it go. These videos have a remarkable way of finding people who need to hear them, often months or years after they were posted.
3. The Question-Led Blog
Research the questions people are actually typing into Google about faith, God, Christianity, and spiritual experience. Use this fantastic online tool www.alsoasked.com to find out what people are really searching for about God/Jesus/faith. Write a genuinely helpful, honest article or post for each one. Not a defence of your theology. A real engagement with the real question from the perspective of someone who has walked through it. People searching for answers online find these articles, and many of them take the next step toward faith as a result.
4. The Podcast That Invites Dialogue
Launch a podcast or join one as a guest, focused on the intersection of your real life and your faith. Encourage listeners to send questions, share their own stories, and engage in the comments. The podcast format creates an intimacy that other digital formats rarely match. People listen alone, often in their most private and reflective moments, and feel they are in a genuine conversation rather than watching a broadcast. That intimacy creates trust, and trust opens hearts.
5. The Weekly Content Rhythm
Consistency is the single most important factor in effective Content Evangelism. One piece of content per week, published consistently over two years, is worth more than ten pieces in a burst followed by silence. Choose a format that you can sustain. Choose a topic that you genuinely care about. Then show up every week, regardless of engagement levels, regardless of algorithm changes, regardless of whether it feels like it is working. The compound effect of consistent presence in the digital mission field is extraordinary. Don’t focus on the numbers with a strategy like this. Just be obedient to God and show up regardless of the result.
The Reach You Cannot Imagine
The Content Evangelist will rarely see the full impact of what they create. The blog post read at 2am by someone in a country they have never visited. The video shared by a stranger to a family member who was searching. The podcast episode that was the last thing someone heard before they prayed for the first time in twenty years.
You will not see most of it. But it is happening. Every piece of faithful, honest, God-centred content you put into the world is working in ways that are beyond your visibility and beyond your control.
Keep creating. Keep showing up. The harvest is happening, even when you cannot see the fields.
