What Is Digital Evangelism?

By Sammy Garrity · Christian Business Resources · 8 min read

Let me ask you something. When did you last share your faith? Maybe you said a kind word to a colleague. Maybe you posted something online that quietly pointed someone to hope. Maybe you have been wanting to do more but have not known where to start. That is exactly why digital evangelism matters — and why I want to break it down for you in a way that makes it feel possible, not overwhelming.

So What Exactly Is Digital Evangelism?

Digital evangelism is simply the act of sharing the gospel, your faith, or the love of Christ through digital platforms. That means social media, email, podcasts, YouTube, blogs, websites — any online space where people gather, scroll, search and connect. It is not a new concept. It is the Great Commission applied to where people actually are in the 21st century. Jesus said go into all the world. Today, all the world is online.

The future of evangelism is digital — not because God has changed, but because the world has.

Why It Matters More Than Ever

Over 5 billion people use the internet. More than 4.8 billion of them are on social media. People are searching for meaning, hope, healing and purpose online every single day. They are googling does God love me at 2am. They are watching testimonies on YouTube. They are following people who make their faith look real and accessible. The question is: will they find you?

The 5 Types of Digital Evangelist

One of the biggest reasons people hold back from digital evangelism is because they think it means standing on a virtual soapbox and preaching at people. But that is only one of five ways you can share your faith online.

  • Connection Evangelism: Living a consistent, Christlike life online that others notice and want to know the source of.
  • Conversation Evangelism: Sharing your God experiences in DMs, comments and online conversations — naturally and genuinely.
  • Community Evangelism: Building or joining online communities where faith is explored and people find belonging.
  • Collaborative Evangelism: Going Live, hosting events and creating space for others to encounter the gospel.
  • Content Evangelism: Creating videos, blogs, reels and posts that share your story and invite people into dialogue about faith.

Where Do You Start?

You start where you are. With what you have. With the platform you are already on and the audience that is already watching, even if it is small. You do not need a theology degree or a professional podcast setup. You need courage, consistency, and the willingness to let God use your voice — just as it is — to reach the people only you can reach.
